Insurance & Payment

Understanding the cost of therapy shouldn’t be confusing. Below you’ll find general information about insurance, self-pay services, Good Faith Estimates, and payment options at Journey Counseling Center.

Insurance Plans We Accept

Journey Counseling Center participates with a variety of insurance plans. Insurance participation varies by therapist, and not every clinician participates with every insurance plan. If you’re scheduling with a specific therapist, we’re happy to help you determine whether they participate with your insurance plan before your first appointment.

We currently accept many plans, including:

Blue Cross Blue Shield Family

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM)
  • Blue Care Network (BCN)
  • Federal Employee Program (FEP)
  • MESSA

Commercial Insurance

  • Aetna
  • ASR Health Benefits
  • Cofinity
  • First Health
  • GEHA
  • HAP
  • McLaren Health Plans – Advantage, Community, Medicaid

Medicare

  • Medicare
  • HAP Medicare Advantage – Senior Plus
  • Medicare Aetna
  • Medicare Plus Blue
  • Medicare BCN

If you do not see your insurance listed, please contact our office. Insurance participation may vary by therapist, and we’ll be happy to discuss your options before scheduling.

Self-Pay

Some clients choose to pay for therapy themselves rather than use insurance. Others may have services that are not covered by their insurance plan.

Self-pay allows therapy to occur without submitting claims to your insurance company and may provide greater flexibility in your care.

Please contact our office for current self-pay rates for individual therapy services.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is available on a self-pay basis only at Journey Counseling Center.

Unlike individual therapy, couples counseling focuses on the relationship rather than one individual. Because of this, insurance plans generally do not consider couples counseling medically necessary and typically do not provide coverage. Most couples counseling is associated with relationship-focused diagnostic codes that are not reimbursable by insurance.

Our fee for couples counseling is $200 per session.

In the uncommon situation where a treating therapist determines that insurance billing may be appropriate, this will be discussed directly with the couple.

Good Faith Estimates

If you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance, you have the right under federal law to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of your healthcare services.

Additional information is available on our Good Faith Estimate page.

Learn more about your rights under the No Surprises Act.

Payment Expectations

Payment is expected at the time services are provided unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

Clients using insurance are responsible for any applicable copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, or amounts not covered by their insurance plan.

Superbills

If Journey Counseling Center is not in-network with your insurance plan, you may request a superbill to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Out-of-network reimbursement is determined by your insurance carrier and is not guaranteed. We encourage you to contact your insurance company to learn about your out-of-network mental health benefits before beginning services.
