Secure Text Messaging Consent

Secure iPlum Text Messaging Consent

Journey Counseling Center, LLC

Purpose

Journey Counseling Center offers secure text messaging as an optional method of communication for limited practice-related purposes. To protect client privacy, the practice uses iPlum, a HIPAA-compliant secure communication platform that provides encrypted messaging, message archiving, and a Business Associate Agreement.

Secure text messaging is available only after a client has reviewed this consent and affirmatively agreed through the practice’s contact or intake forms.

How Secure Text Messaging May Be Used

When consent is provided, secure text messaging may be used to:

  • Request, confirm, or reschedule appointments

  • Send secure links to intake or administrative forms

  • Coordinate scheduling or administrative matters

  • Share practice-related information

  • Exchange brief, limited clinical communications when appropriate

Text messaging is not a substitute for therapy sessions and is not used for ongoing clinical care.

Communication Limits

  • Text messages are not monitored continuously

  • Text messaging is not used for emergencies or crisis situations

  • Do not use text messaging for urgent or time-sensitive concerns

If you are experiencing an emergency or mental health crisis, call 911 or dial 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

More detailed clinical communication will occur during scheduled sessions or through approved secure platforms.

Secure vs Non-Secure Text Messaging

Journey Counseling Center does not use standard SMS text messaging for clinical communication.

Secure text messaging occurs only through the iPlum secure app or secure web portal after consent has been provided. Messages sent outside of approved secure channels may not be received or responded to.
