Therapy for the people who take care of
everyone else.
You’re the one people call when they need help. The one others depend on. The one who figures things out, shows up, and keeps going even when you’re overwhelmed.
Being that person can be rewarding, but over time it can also become exhausting. When you’re always the one solving problems, putting others first, or holding everything together, it’s easy to lose sight of your own needs. Eventually the stress starts showing up as anxiety, burnout, resentment, relationship struggles, or the feeling that somewhere along the way, you’ve stopped recognizing yourself.
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
— Carl Jung
Meet Samantha
Samantha Schalk, LMSW-C, LMSW-M, CAADC, CIMHP, BCP3, CHPSE is a Licensed Master Social Worker with nearly 25 years of experience helping adults navigate life’s challenges.
Lasting change often begins when you start seeing yourself and your life from a different perspective. You may come to therapy focused on a specific problem, only to discover that the patterns influencing your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and decisions have been quietly shaping your life for years. By connecting those dots, therapy becomes more than symptom management. It becomes an opportunity to better understand yourself and create lasting change.
Throughout her career, Samantha has served in both clinical and leadership roles across a variety of behavioral health settings, providing therapy, clinical supervision, program development, and organizational leadership. These experiences have given her a broad perspective on the many ways people adapt, cope, and grow throughout different stages of life while reinforcing her belief that every person’s story is more complex than a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms.
Clients often appreciate Samantha’s ability to balance compassion with honesty, curiosity with practical problem-solving, and meaningful insight with the occasional dose of humor. She creates an environment where people feel safe exploring difficult topics while also being challenged to approach themselves with curiosity instead of criticism. Sometimes the most significant breakthrough isn’t learning something new. It’s seeing something you’ve lived with for years in a completely different way.
Samantha provides therapy to adults throughout Michigan through secure telehealth services and offers in-person appointments in Bay City.
What It’s Like to Work With Me

You’ll Probably Leave with More Questions Than Answers
Not because therapy is confusing, but because the right question can change everything. I won’t tell you what to think or how to live your life. Instead, I’ll ask questions that help you become curious about patterns you may not have noticed, challenge long-held assumptions, and see familiar situations from a different perspective. Sometimes the greatest insight doesn’t come from finding an answer. It comes from asking a question you never thought to ask.
→
Fluent in Sarcasm
My style is down-to-earth, direct, and often includes humor. Therapy is hard work, so I believe it’s important to laugh when we can. Clients often tell me they appreciate having a therapist who can balance honest feedback, meaningful conversations, and the occasional sarcastic comment without losing sight of what brought them to therapy in the first place.

Therapy That Fits You
One client once told me, “I love how you never tell me to do things I wouldn’t do, like yoga or journal.”
She wasn’t wrong.
I don’t believe therapy should ask you to become someone you’re not. What helps one person may not help another, so every recommendation is tailored to your personality, strengths, goals, and what is actually realistic for your life. Therapy should fit your life, not the other way around.

Niche & Ideal Client
If you’re ready to move beyond simply managing symptoms and begin understanding what’s driving them, you’re in the right place. While people often begin therapy because of anxiety, burnout, relationship challenges, trauma, or major life transitions, our work frequently becomes about understanding the patterns that have been influencing your life all along.
You may be the helper, the caregiver, the healthcare professional, the therapist, the problem-solver, or simply the person everyone else depends on. From the outside, your life may look successful and put together, but privately you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, resentful, disconnected from yourself, or unsure how you ended up living a life that revolves around everyone else’s needs.
Rather than focusing only on reducing symptoms, we’ll get curious about what may be driving them. Together, we’ll explore the patterns, beliefs, relationships, and experiences that continue to influence how you think, feel, and respond to the world around you. As those patterns become clearer, you’ll often discover you have far more choices than you realized. Therapy becomes less about simply feeling better and more about understanding yourself in a way that creates lasting, authentic change.
My approach is both integrative and holistic because I believe people are far more complex than a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms. Your emotional well-being is shaped by your experiences, relationships, physical health, personal values, and, for some individuals, spirituality. Therapy is always tailored to your unique personality, strengths, and goals, combining evidence-based practices with complementary approaches when they align with your preferences and treatment goals.
Whether you’re feeling burned out from constantly taking care of others, struggling to establish healthy boundaries, navigating a difficult relationship, or simply sensing that something needs to change, I’ll provide a supportive space where you can better understand yourself, gain new perspectives, and build a life that feels more aligned with who you are.
Therapy Approaches
I don’t believe people fit neatly into one therapeutic model because no two people experience life in exactly the same way. Therapy should be as individual as the person sitting across from me.
Rather than asking, “Which therapy approach do I use?” I start by asking, “What does this person need?” From there, I integrate evidence-based and complementary approaches based on your goals, personality, strengths, preferences, and the challenges you’re facing. My role isn’t to make you fit a particular therapy model. It’s to create an approach that fits you.
Depending on your goals, therapy may incorporate:
Integrative Mental Health
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Motivational Interviewing
Psychodynamic Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy
Somatic-Informed Therapy
Strength-Based Therapy
Brainspotting
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Emotion Code®
Body Code®
Belief Code®
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Existential Therapy
Humanistic Therapy
